Basil Abu Suleiman

“Hoping for safety, a return home, and welcoming my baby girl into our family's embrace.”

My name is Basil Abu Suleiman, I am 25 years old from Jabalia Camp. I'm married and hold a degree in Physical Education from Al-Aqsa University. I am a Kung Fu coach, a gymnast, and a Romanian wrestler.

For two years, I dedicated my time to the UNRWA Fun Weeks, earning the title of the best activator in 2022. In my community, I established a Kung Fu and gymnastics club where I trained and graduated hundreds of players, leading the club to numerous local championships. Unfortunately, my club was damaged in the brutal aggression.

In addition to my community work, I was an administrator at the Classico Gym Club, overseeing fitness training, weight loss programs, and general management. I was also a sports facilitator in the British Kindergarten, coaching judo and gymnastics with tailored programs for children of different ages, aiming to channel their energy positively.

My daily routine was demanding: I was working from seven in the morning until eleven at night in three different locations. The pressure intensified as I approached my wedding, as I was pushing myself beyond limits to cover expenses. Despite my initial plans to rest after the marriage, life had other plans.

Just as I began organizing my time between family and work, the barbaric war erupted, shattering our dreams and disrupting everything I had carefully planned. On the eighth day of the war, my family and I were forced to evacuate to Khan Yunis. Struggling to adapt, my wife and I sought refuge with my sister in Rafah during the seven-day humanitarian ceasefire. As the war resumed, we found shelter in a school in Rafah.

During this challenging time, a friend introduced me to work with children with PHRC. In the midst of turmoil, we focus on easing the hardships they are enduring, and providing solace to children facing adversity.

As days pass, I am waiting to return to our home I worked so hard to build. My hope is that we get out of this human catastrophe safely and return to our homes where we can welcome the arrival of my baby girl into our family.
